The purpose of this letter was to give instructions and encouragement to Timothy and all future preachers and teachers about not being ashamed of Gods word, and to hold fast to the pattern of sound words delivered by Paul. Be strong and endure hardship and suffering as a good soldier of Christ, and be willing to endure all things for the chosen, that they may obtain the salvation which is in Christ. In 2 Timothy, Paul charges Timothy with faithful perseverance on every front: handle the word of truth with diligence, rightly dividing it; hold firmly to sound doctrine and live it out; be watchful and endure affliction; do the work of an evangelist. Guard against false teachers, whose corrupting doctrines spread and kill like cancer, undermining the work of faithful preachers. Above all, fight the good fight, keep the faith, and finish the race in Christ with eyes fixed on the crown of righteousness.}} [2 Timothy 1]
