ὑπομονή G5281 is the temper which does not easily succumb under suffering, μακροθυμία G3115 is the self restraint which does not hastily retaliate a wrong. The one is opposed to cowardice or despondency, the other to wrath and revenge.

(G5862 OLB) Synonyms: metamellomai (μεταμέλλομαι G3338), metanoeo (μετανοέω G3340).

The distinction often given between these is. μεταμέλλομαι G3338 refers to an emotional change, μετανοέω G3340 to an change of choice, μεταμέλλομαι G3338 has reference to particulars, μετανοέω G3340 to the entire life, μεταμέλλομαι G3338 signifies nothing but regret even amounting to remorse, μετανοέω G3340 that reversal of moral purpose known as repentance. Does not Seem to be sustained by usage. But that μετανοέω G3340 is the fuller and nobler term, expressive of moral action and issues, is indicated not only by its derivation, but by the greater frequency of its use and by the fact it is often used in the imperative.
