Modern Literal Version
[Matthew 6]

     {Mat 6:1-34; no parallel.}

     6:1Take-heedĎ not to do yourĎ charity before men, to be seen by them, otherwise youĎ have no reward from yourĎ Father, the one in the heavens.

     6:2Therefore, whenever you are doing charity, do not sound a trumpet before you just-like the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the lanes, *that they may be glorified by men. Assuredly I am saying to youĎ, They are having their reward.6:3But when you are doing charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,6:4*that your charity may be in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will be repaying you openly.

     6:5And whenever youĎ pray, do not be just-like the hypocrites, because they love to pray, standing in the synagogues and at the street corners, *that they may appear devout to men. Assuredly I am saying to youĎ, that they are having their reward.6:6But you, whenever you pray, enter into your storeroom, and when* you have locked your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will be repaying you openly. 6:7And while praying, doĎ not be repetitious just-like the Gentile; for* they think that they will be heard in their many words.6:8Therefore, doĎnot be similar to them, for* yourĎ Father knows what things youĎ have need of before youĎ ask him.6:9Therefore prayĎ thus: our Father, the one in the heavens, let your name be made holy. 6:10Let your kingdom come. Let your will happen as in heaven, also upon the earth. 6:11Give our{F}needful breadto us today. 6:12And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.6:13And do not bring us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one, because yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.6:14For* if youĎ forgive men their trespasses, yourĎ heavenly Father will also be forgiving youĎ.6:15But if youĎ doĎ not forgive men their trespasses, neither will yourĎ Father be forgiving yourĎ trespasses.

     {Footnotes: Mat 6:11, no one knows for sure what the original word means. It is only in the N.T. twice and no where else.}

     6:16Now whenever youĎ fast, doĎ not become just-like the hypocrites, with a gloomy face; for* they disfigure their faces, *that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly I am saying to youĎ, They are having their reward.6:17But as for you, when you are fasting, anoint your head and wash your face 6:18*that you do not appear to be fasting to men, but to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will be repaying you.

     6:19DoĎ not store up treasures for you upon the earth, where moth and rust ingest, and where thieves burrow through yourĎ wall and steal.6:20But storeĎ up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust ingest, and where thieves do not burrow through or steal.6:21For* where yourĎ treasure is, yourĎ heart will also be there.

     6:22The lamp of the body is the eye, because if your eye is clear, your whole body will be radiant.6:23But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be dark. Therefore, if the light which is in you is darkness, how much greater is the darkness!

     6:24No one is able to serve* two lords, for* either he will hate the one and will love* the other; or he will hold to one and will despise the other. YouĎ are not able to serve* God and{F}money.

    {Mat 6:24, or: Money as in your 'God of Money,' or 'The Almighty Dollar.'}

     6:25Because of this, I am saying to youĎ, DoĎ not be anxious for yourĎ life, what youĎ may eat and what youĎ may drink; nor for what youĎ may clothe yourĎ body with. Is not the life worth more-than the nourishment and the body worth more-than the clothing?6:26LookĎ at the birds of the heaven, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yourĎ heavenly Father is nourishing them. Are youĎ not carrying much more-value than them? 6:27Now which one out of youĎ is able to add one cubit upon his stature by being anxious? 6:28And why are youĎ anxious concerning clothing? LearnĎfrom the lilies of the field, somehow they are growing; they are not laboring, nor spinning.6:29Yet I say to youĎ, that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these. 6:30But if God so dresses-up the grass of the field, which is here today and the next-day is cast into the oven, will henot much more clothe youĎ? YouĎ of small faith!

     6:31Therefore doĎ not be anxious, saying, What should we eat? or, What should we drink? or, What should we dress ourselves with?6:32For* the Gentiles are seeking after all these things; for*yourĎ heavenly Father knows that youĎ have needs of all these things.6:33But first seekĎ the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to youĎ.6:34Therefore doĎ not be anxious *for the next-day; for* the next-day will be anxious enough for the things of itself. Its evil is enough for the one day.
