Modern Literal Version
[Matthew 10]

10:1 And having called his twelve disciples, he gave to them authority over unclean spirits, so-thatthey are able to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of illness.

10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: the first is Simon, who is called* Peter and Andrew his brother; James and John his brother, the sons of Zebedee; 10:3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus and Lebbaeus who was surnamed Thaddaeus; 10:4 Simon the Canaanite {Or: zealot. See Luk 6:15, Acts 1:13.} and Judas the Iscariot, who gave him up to the Jews.

10:5 Jesus sent forth these twelve apostles and commanded them, saying, DoĎ not go into any road of the Gentiles and doĎ not enter into any city of the Samaritans; 10:6but travelĎ rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.10:7Now while* youĎ are traveling, preachĎ, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.10:8HealĎ the sick; cleanseĎ the lepers; castĎ out demons; freely youĎreceived, freely youĎ give.10:9 DoĎ not procure gold, nor silver, nor brass coins*for yourĎmoneybelts; 10:10no knapsack *for yourĎ journey, neither two tunics nor shoes nor staffs; for* the worker is worthy of his nourishment.10:11Now into whatever city or village youĎ enter, probeĎ out who is worthy in it, and abideĎ there until youĎ should go.10:12Now while entering into the house, greetĎ it.10:13And if indeed the house is worthy, let yourĎ peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let yourĎpeace return to youĎ.10:14 And whoever did not accept youĎ, nor heard yourĎ words, when* youĎ go forth from that house or that city, shake-offĎ the dust from yourĎ feet. 10:15 Assuredly I am saying to youĎ, It will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

10:16Behold, I am sending youĎ forth like sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore, becomeĎ prudent like serpents and harmless like doves.10:17But take-heedĎ, stay away from men; for* they will be giving youĎ up to councils, and they will be scourging youĎ in their synagogues;10:18and youĎ will also be led in front of governors and kings because of me, *for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.10:19 But whenever they give youĎ up, doĎ not be anxious how or what youĎ should speak; for* it will be given to youĎ in that hour what youĎ will be speaking. 10:20For* it is not youĎ who speaks, but the Spirit of yourĎ Father who speaks in youĎ.10:21Now brother will be giving up brother to death and the father his child and children will be standing up against parents and will be slaying them.10:22 And youĎ will be hated by all men because of my name. But he who has endured to the end, this one will be saved. 10:23But whenever they persecute youĎ in this city, fleeĎ into another; for*assuredly I am saying to youĎ, YouĎ may never* complete the cities of Israel, until the Son of Man should come.

10:24A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a bondservant above his lord.10:25 It is enough for the disciple that* he should become like his teacher and the bondservant like his lord. If they have called the householder Beelzebub, how much more the kinfolk! 10:26 Therefore doĎ not fear them; for* there is nothing hidden, which will not be revealed, and nothing secret, which will not be known. 10:27What I am speaking to youĎ in the darkness, speakĎ in the light, and what youĎ hear in yourĎ ear, preachĎ upon the housetops.10:28 And doĎ not be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 10:29 Are two sparrows not sold for a copper coin? And not one out of them will be falling to the earth without yourĎ Father knowing it; 10:30 but even the hairs of yourĎ head are all numbered. 10:31 Therefore doĎ not fear, because youĎ are carrying more-value than many sparrows. 10:32Therefore, everyone who will confess to be in me before men, I will also confessto be in him before my Father, who is in the heavens. 10:33 But whoever denies me before men, I will also be denying him before my Father who is in the heavens.

10:34 DoĎ not suppose that I came to cast peace upon the earth; I did not come to cast peace, but a sword. 10:35For* I came to pit man against his father and the daughter against her mother and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 10:36and, 'A man's enemies will be his own kinfolk.'{Mic 7:6}10:37He who loves his father or mother above me is not worthy of me, and he who loves his son or daughter above me is not worthy of me. 10:38Now he who is not taking up his cross and following after me, is not worthy of me. 10:39He who has found his life will be losing it, and he who has lost his life because of me will be finding it.

10:40He who accepts youĎ, accepts me; and he who receives me, receives the one who sent me. 10:41He who accepts a prophet in the name of a prophet, will be receiving a prophet's reward, and he who accepts a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, will be receiving a righteous man's reward.10:42And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to drink to one of these little ones, in the name of a disciple, assuredly I am saying to youĎ, He may never* lose his reward.
