Modern Literal Version
[John 13]

     {Joh 13:1-20 Thur. Evening; no parallel.}

     13:1 Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that his hour has come in order that he should proceed out of this world to his Father; having loved* his own who were in the world, he loved* them to the end. 13:2 And it happened during supper, the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, in order that he should give him up. 13:3 Jesus, knowing that the Father has given all the things into his hands and that he came forth from God and is going to God, 13:4 arose from supper and places aside his garments, and he took a towel and girded himself. 13:5 Thereafter he puts water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel in which he was girded.

     13:6 Therefore, he comes to Simon Peter and that man says to him, Lord, why are you washing my feet?

     13:7 Jesus answered and said to him, What I do you do not know now, but you will know after these things.

     13:8 Peter says to him, Never* wash my feet.

     Jesus answered him, If I do not wash you, you have no part with me.

     13:9 Simon Peter says to him, Lord, not only my feet, but also the hands and the head.

     13:10 Jesus says to him, He who has been fully-washed does not need to wash himself, otherthan the feet, but is entirely clean and youĎ are clean, but not all. 13:11 (For* he knew the one who is giving him up.) Because of this, he said, YouĎ are not all clean.

     13:12 Therefore, when he had washed their feet and had taken up his garments, having leaned-back again, he said to them, YouĎ know what I have done for youĎ? 13:13 YouĎ address me as the Teacher and, Lord, and youĎ say well; for* so I am. 13:14Therefore, if I, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed yourĎ feet, youĎ also ought to wash one another's feet.13:15For* I gave youĎ an example, in order that youĎ should also do like I have done for youĎ. 13:16Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to youĎ, A bondservant is not greater than his lord; nor is an apostle greater than he who sent him. 13:17If youĎ know these things, youĎ are fortunate if youĎ practice them.

     13:18I do not speak concerning all of youĎ. I know whom I have chosen, but in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, 'He who eats bread with me, lifted up his heel against me.'{Psa 41:9}13:19From now on I tell youĎ before it is to happen, in order that, whenever it has happened, youĎmay believe that I am he.13:20 Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to youĎ, He who receives anyone, whomever I send, receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me.

     {Mat 26:21-25, 26:31-35 & Mar 14:18-21, 14:27-31 & Luk 22:21-23, 22:31-38 & Joh 13:21-38.}

     13:21 Jesus having said these things, was disturbed in the spirit and testified and said,Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to youĎ, that one out of youĎ will be giving me up.

     13:22 Therefore the disciples were looking toward one another, being perplexed concerning whom he is speaking about. 13:23 But one of his disciples was reclining on Jesus' bosom, the onewhom Jesus loved*. 13:24 Therefore, Simon Peter signals to him to inquire, who it might be, concerning whom he is speaking about. 13:25 But that man who had leaned upon Jesus' chest says to him, Lord, who is it?

     13:26 Jesus answers, It is that man to whom I have dipped themorsel, and I will be giving it to him. And having dipped the morsel, he takes it and gives it to Judas Iscariot, Simon's son. 13:27And after the morsel, then the Adversary entered into him. Therefore Jesus says to that man,What you are doing, do quickly.13:28 (Now no one of those reclining at the table knew for whatpurpose he spoke this to him. 13:29 For* some were thinking, since Judas had the box, that Jesus said to him, Buy what things we have need of *for the feast; or, in order that he should give something to the poor.) 13:30 Therefore, having received the morsel, that man went out immediately and it was night.

     13:31 Therefore, when he went out, Jesus says, Now the Son of Man was glorified and God was glorified in him; 13:32If God was glorified in him, God will also be glorifying him in himself and immediately he will be glorifying him. 13:33Little-children, I am still with youĎfor a little while. YouĎ will be seeking me and just-as I said to the Jews, Where I am going, youĎ are not able to come. Also now I am saying to youĎ,13:34I am giving to youĎ a new commandment, in order that youĎ should love* one another; just-as I have loved* youĎ, in order that youĎ also should love* one another. 13:35All men will know that youĎ are my disciples in this, if youĎ have love* among oneanother.

     13:36 Simon Peter says to him, Lord, where are you going?

     Jesus answered him, I am going where you are not able to follow now, but you will be following me later.

     13:37 Peter says to him, Lord, why am I not able to follow you even now? I will lay down my life on your behalf.

     13:38 Jesus answered him, Will you lay down your life on my behalf? Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to you, The rooster may never* crow, until you will be denying me three-times.
