Modern Literal Version
[John 10]

     10:1Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to youĎ, He who does not enter in through the door into the sheep's pen, but goes up elsewhere, that man is a thief and a robber.10:2But he who enters in through the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 10:3The doorkeeper opens to him, and the sheep hear his voice and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.10:4And whenever he has cast out his own sheep, he travels before them and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.10:5But they may never* follow another man, but will be fleeing from him, because they do not know the voice of others. 10:6 (Jesus was speaking this metaphor to them, but those men did not know what it was that he was speaking to them.)

     10:7 Therefore Jesus said to them again, Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to youĎ, I am the door of the sheep.10:8All things, as many things as came before are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.10:9I am the door; if anyone enters through me, he will be saved and will enter and will go out and will find pasture. 10:10The thief does not come, except that* he may steal, and may sacrifice and may destroy you. I came in order that they may have life and may have it even-more.10:11I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life on behalf of the sheep. 10:12But the hired-servant and not being the shepherd, whose sheep are not his own, views the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees and the wolf seizes them and scatters the sheep. 10:13Now the hired-servant flees because he is a hired-servant and he himself does not care concerning the sheep.10:14I am the good shepherd, and I know my own and I am known by my own, 10:15just-as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life on behalf of the sheep.10:16And I have other sheep, which are notout of this pen; it is also essential for me to lead those and they will be hearing my voice and there will become one flock, only one shepherd.10:17Because of this, the Father loves* me, because I lay down my life, in order that I may again take it.10:18No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down out of myself. I have authority to lay it down and I have authority to take it up again. I received this commandment from my Father.

     10:19 Therefore, a split again happened among the Jews because of these words. 10:20 And many out of them were saying, He has a demon and is insane; why are youĎ listening to him?

     10:21 Others were saying, These are not the words of onebeing demon-possessed. A demon is not able to open the eyes of the blind, is it?

     {Joh 10:22-42; Jerusalem and beyond Jordan; no parallel.}

     10:22 Now it happened to be Hanukkah in Jerusalem and it was winter, 10:23 and Jesus was walking in the temple in Solomon's porch. 10:24 Therefore the Jews surrounded him and were saying to him, Until when, are you lifting this question from our souls: tell us frankly, if you are the Christ?

     10:25 Jesus answered them, I spoke to youĎ and youĎ do not believe. The works which I am doing in my Father's name, these are testifying concerning me.10:26But youĎ do not believe, for*youĎ are not from my sheep just-as I said to youĎ.10:27My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they are following me,10:28and I give to them everlasting life, and they may never* perish and not anyone will be taking them out of my hand. 10:29My Father, who has given them to me, he is greater than all, and no one is able to take them out of my Father's hand.10:30I and the Father are one. 10:31 Therefore the Jews bore stones again in order that they might stone him. 10:32Jesus answered them, I have showed youĎ many good works from my Father, because of what work from those do youĎ stone me?

     10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, We do not stone you concerning a good work, but concerning blasphemy, and because you being a man, are making* yourself God.

     10:34 Jesus answered them, Has it not been written in yourĎ law, that I said, YouĎ are gods?{Psa 82:6?}10:35If he called those men gods, to whom the word of God came* (and the Scripture is not able to be torn-down),10:36do youĎ say of him, whom the Father made holy and sent into the world, You blaspheme, because I said, I am the Son of God? 10:37If I am not doing the works of my Father, then doĎ not believe in me. 10:38But if I am doing them, even if youĎ doĎ not believe in me, believeĎ in the works; in order that youĎ may know and may believe that the Father is in me and I in him.10:39 Therefore they were again seeking to arrest him and he went forth out of their hand.

     10:40 And he went away again beyond-that area of the Jordan into the place where John was first immersing*, and he remained there. 10:41 And many came to him and they were saying, John indeed did no sign, but all things, as many things as John spoke concerning this one were true.10:42 And many believed in him there.
