Modern Literal Version

[1 Thessalonians 5]

5:1 Now brethren, youĎ have no need for anything to be written to youĎ concerning the times and the seasons. 5:2 For* you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord so comes like a thief in the night. 5:3 For* whenever they are saying, Peace and security; then sudden utter-destruction stands by them, just-like the travail a woman has in her womb, and they may never*flee away from it. 5:4 But brethren, youĎ are not in darkness, in order that the day might overtake youĎ like a thief. 5:5 YouĎ are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night, nor of darkness; 5:6 Therefore consequently*, we should not sleep, like the rest also do, but let us watch and be sober. 5:7 For* those who are sleeping, sleep in the night, and those who are drunken, are drunken in the night. 5:8 But we, being of the day, should be sober; having clothed yourselves with the breastplate of faith and love*, and a helmet-- the hope of salvation. 5:9 Because God appointed* us not *for wrath, but *for the acquisition of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,5:10 who died on our behalf, in order that, whether we should watch or sleep, we should live together with him at the same time. 5:11 Hence, encourageĎ one another and buildĎ up one by one, just-as youĎ are also practicing.

5:12 But brethren, we request of youĎ to know those who are laboring among youĎ, and are governing over youĎ, and admonishing youĎ in the Lord; 5:13 and to deem them exceptionally in love* because of their work. BeĎ at peace among yourselves. 5:14 But brethren, we encourage youĎ: admonishĎ the disorderly, consoleĎ the fainthearted, hold up the weak, haveĎ patience toward all.5:15 SeeĎ that not anyone repays evil in exchange-for evil to anyone, but always pursueĎ the good, both toward one another and toward all. 5:16 RejoiceĎ always. 5:17 PrayĎ constantly. 5:18 Give-thanksĎ in everything; for* this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward youĎ. 5:19 DoĎ not quench the Spirit. 5:20 DoĎ not scorn prophesying. 5:21 TestĎ all things. Hold-ontoĎ the good things. 5:22AbstainĎ from every form of evil.

5:23 Now may the God of peace himself make youĎ entirely holy, and may yourĎ whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. 5:24He is faithful who calls youĎ, who will also do it.

     5:25 Brethren, prayĎ concerning us.

5:26 GreetĎ all the brethren by a holy kiss. 5:27 I am imploring youĎby the Lord, that this letter be read to all the holy brethren.

5:28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is with youĎ. Amen.
